November 5, Here is the Friday box-office: No surprise coming in first is “Doctor Strange” pulling in a minimal 32.5 million thanks to Benedict “Sherlock” Cumberbatch” Coming in second is the obvious cash grab of “Trolls” wielding a 12.3 million, Justin Timberlake sure knows how to pick his roles. Finishing up in third, is the soon-to-be nominated for best picture “Hacksaw Ridge” This film as talked about in last weeks News Flash, should bring Andrew Garfield and Mel Gibson many awards this award season.
November 6, Warner Bros. has announced who will play Steppenwolf in “Justice League”. Game of Thrones actor Ciaran Hinds will bring the big baddie to life. If you were unsatisfied like me with BvS, then you bought the ultimate edition on Blu-Ray. If you didn’t then I fill you in, there’s a deleted scene where Jesse Eisenberg comes into contact with Steppenwolf and stuff happens. There we see our first look at the villain. WB has said though, that he’ll look different in Justice League than in BvS. I don’t watch Game of Thrones, but considering the talent that the show has, I’m not concerned about how he’ll portray the character, I’m concerned how Zack Snyder will make him look, hopefully not like the P.O.S. Doomsday.
Good news, The Defenders have started shooting and there are set photos online. The characters everyone thought would be there, Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). This series will finally bring together all the other Netflix shows to make a C-List Avenger team.
If you don’t know Michael Giacchino, then listen up. Michael Giacchino will be scoring Spiderman: Homecoming. Now, if you don’t know who this is, then let me tell you. Steven Spielberg has John Williams: JJ Abrams has Michael Giacchino, I will give you some of his noticeable credits. Medal of Honor: Frontline, Call of Duty, The Incredibles, Mission Impossible III, Ratatouille, Up, Star Trek, Lost, Super 8, Cars 2, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Star Trek: Into Darkness, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Inside Out, Jurassic World, Zootopia, Doctor Strange, and the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. As you can tell, Disney trusts him a lot and he’s scored every JJ Abrams movie besides The Force Awakens. Now Disney again, will give Giacchino the chance to make a great score for Spiderman. All I can say is, get ready for some iconic music to listen to while you watch an amazing film.
November 7, Some good news (maybe) for Arrow fans. Lexa Doig has been casted as Tail al Ghoul. Now. I’m not sure if this will bring Arrow back to the hijinks of seasons 3 and 4, but i am happy that they’re bringing more of the Batman “villains” into this property. We all know that DC won’t let the CW make a Batman show, but CW has their version of Batman, Green Arrow. Seasons 1 and 2 really brought that sense of Batman to the character, and made me interested in the character of Green Arrow. With this casting news my only hope is that CW won’t stink up their best show.
Really really big news, Young Justice has been revived for a third season. If you remember, the producer of Young Justice said that if we watch the show on Netflix enough, then the surge in popularity would most likely bring the show back. Well, looks like that promise was true, and here we are. This is my third favorite animated show on tv now, behind The Simpsons and Star Wars: Rebels, this show will hopefully bring more comic book fans into the lime light and those new fans will buy more comics to show the greater rise in comic popularity.
November 8, Opening this week is the sci-fi thriller “Arrival”. If you’ve seen the youtube ads, then you’ve heard that it has an amazing score on Rotten Tomatoes (%100). I won’t say to much about it, but its pretty freakin good especially Jeremy Renner, another great performance by Hawkeye.
Universal has announced that they will be remaking “An American Werewolf in London”. This is one of the best horror-comedies that you will ever see. John Landis’ son Max Landis will be directing and writing the project. But, this doesn’t come off as the best idea considering that Max, doesn’t have the experience necessary to helm it. Overall, An American Werewolf in London is my favorite horror-comedies movie ever, just don’t reck it.
November 9, 20th Century Fox released some news but take it with a grain of salt. There will be a X-Force film coming into the X-Men universe. Simon Kinberg, the writer of the X-Men movies will be writing the reboot for the X-Men universe. Like I said before this might not happen.
The big screen adaptation of the Vertigo comic, Sandman has lost its writer. Eric Heisserer the writer of Arrival, has turned in his work to the studio and decided that he wasn’t the best fit. In fact, he said he’d rather see it as a HBO series, more than a film franchise. This actually could be better for it, this way we can see a longer story more than a chunk of story.
The Defenders have announced that Sigourney Weaver and Elodie Yung will join in. So will Elektra become evil under the influence of Weaver’s character. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, then go watch Daredevil season 2.
November 10, In a Toronto studio interview, Kevin Feige finally revealed that Michael Keaton will be playing Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Feige stated that Michael Keaton was on his wish list, along with Cate Blanchett in Thor: Ragnarok and Josh Brolin as Thanos. This is the year of Keaton, he will be playing ray Croc in the Mcdonald’s movie, which will most likely bring him his Oscar winner. Its also interesting that he’s playing a villain instead of a hero. He could probably play J. Jonah Jameson, he’s that kind of actor. Bottom line, Keaton will bring the flavor that we need for Spider-Man.
Tom Holland has reported that he has signed on for six other Marvel movies, as well as Spider-Man Homecoming. We know that he might be in Infinity War but, your guess is as good as mine.
Scott Derrickson, the director of Doctor Strange, told Variety that, the initial plan wasn’t to have Dormammu as a villain but, to Nightmare the king of the Dark Dimension, But Kevin Feige felt very strong about using Dormammu. I personally, liked that Dormammu was a big baddie. People might complain that he was just like Galactus in Fantastic Four 2, but in this, you could actually see him and he had lines. Plus you have to admit that the scene with Dormamuu and Strange were pretty comical. Comic Q on the other hand might feel different about that though.
The Harley Quinn solo flick just got its writer, Christina Hodson. Her first movie Shut In is coming out this week so check it out to see her writing style. According to her, this will most likely not be a Harley solo move, but a Harley meets Birds of Prey story. Do a quick wiki search and learn about them.
One last thing, the international trailer for Rogue One was released this passed week. if you want to fully understand the trailer read the book Aftermath, it’ll get you caught up on the details, plus its a good read.
Thats all for news this week.
Go see Doctor Strange, Hacksaw Ridge, or Arrival.
Spartan Comics signing off.
